During his freshman year of high school, Elias Gutierrez, now 19, experienced a loss in his family. Afterward, Gutierrez struggled while attending his traditional high school and fell behind in his classes. Determined to graduate, but unsure of how to make up his lost credits, Gutierrez turned to Community School.

It’s taken almost a full year, but the show must go on. And on Thursday, April 28, 2022, the much anticipated Pasadena ISD Athletics Hall of Fame Induction ceremony will be back to induct the Class of 2020. The 2020 event was canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

In an effort to address a need created by the COVID-19 pandemic, several area churches, along with the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, partnered to raise funds and purchase books for all first-grade students in the district through the Foundation’s My Home Library program.

Nabila Munshi wins National Gold Medal at Scholastic Writing and Art contest

Dobie High School senior Nabila Munshi has earned the prestigious National Gold Medal award in the Scholastic Art and Writing Contest for her artwork titled, “Ornate Origins.” Inspired by artist Yulia Brodskaya, the 18”x24” art piece was created using a technique called paper quilling, the coiling and shaping of narrow paper strips to create a design. The art of paper quilling is a tedious and detail-oriented medium and took Munshi roughly four months to complete.

EDUCATION FOUNDATION


Education Foundation

The Pasadena ISD Education Foundation has been created to support educational programs for both the students and staff of the district. The foundation provides funds for educational programs and activities which either have not been funded or have been under-funded by the normal operating budget.

Distributed to teachers who apply in the form of mini-grants, the funds are used to facilitate innovative teaching strategies, energize student achievement and skill development, recognize and encourage staff excellence and expand community involvement from individuals, businesses and civic organizations.
