Pasadena ISD’s ECHS students participate in ‘Clean the City’

Early College High School students throughout the district braved the chilly temps as they volunteered to clean up the City of Pasadena on Thursday, Feb. 13.

During “Clean the City,” a new initiative started by the City of Pasadena, students worked to revamp four Pasadena parks: Strawberry Park, Burke Crenshaw Park, Memorial Park and Holly Bay Park.

Students said they were excited to give back to their community.

“I’m glad we had the opportunity to volunteer today,” said South Houston High School junior Layli Montealgo.

At each location, Parks & Rec employees distributed tools and other necessary equipment to volunteers to help them paint park benches and picnic tables, spread woodchips, pick up trash and disinfect playground equipment.

“Today we are celebrating Community Service Day at San Jacinto College by volunteering for the City of Pasadena,” said Keri Scully the Math instructor at ECHS-South Campus. “Instead of attending college classes, we are donating our time by cleaning up and working on four of our parks in Pasadena.”
