On Saturday, May 18, 2024, Pasadena Independent School District hosted their thirteenth Spring Chess Championship at Beverly Hills Intermediate School.
This championship featured 40 campus entries, including eight high schools, 10 intermediate schools, 10 middle schools, and 12 elementary schools.
This year's championship featured 31 Pasadena ISD campuses and welcomed nine outside districts to the tournament, all competing for a chance to win their division title and take a medal back to their campus.
With several rounds of competition and high energy throughout the room, the championship would not have been possible without the help of all campus coaches and volunteers.
District Chess Coordinator James R. Early gives special thanks to his Co-directors, Bob Bartel, Amanda Khan, and Ethan Rieck, for the extra support, resilience, and resounding effort displayed throughout the various chess competitions this school year.
Pasadena ISD also recognizes all individuals who have been going above and beyond to ensure events like these keep flourishing and remain an impactful opportunity for students to grow, interact, and learn on a chessboard of fun.
