Pasadena ISD hosted its annual Secondary STEAM Fair at San Jacinto College-South on Friday, January 24. The fair promotes an interest in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics or STEAM fields, while showcasing student’s science experiments.
During the all-day event, students were able to tour San Jacinto College, take part in STEM-based learning activities and present their projects to an audience of their peers, families and community members.
As part of the STEM-based activities, Chevron provided a FabLab trailer where students had the opportunity to build their own flashlights with parts made by a laser cutter and a 3-D printer. Additionally, San Jac.allowed Pasadena ISD students to visit their art gallery which featured interactive artwork.
After project presentations were complete, PISD students were able to participate in interactive stations manned by San Jacinto professors and their students. This year, the fair debuted a new exhibit titled “The Art of Science” which featured art competition winners in the 2-D and 3-D categories.
Each Pasadena ISD intermediate campus was represented, along with students from Dobie High School and Pasadena Memorial High School, with a total of 150 students participating.
At the end of the event, winning projects were announced by Curriculum and Instruction Specialist for Secondary Science, Holly Yoes, during an awards ceremony.
