Dobie orchestra director named Houston Symphony’s Educator of the Year

Angela Badon, Dobie High School's head orchestra director, has been named the Educator of the Year by the Houston Symphony.

Badon was announced as the winner in front of an audience of approximately 200 music educators from around the Houston area during the Salute to Music Educators Concert on Sunday, January 12. She was nominated for the award by her orchestra students, along with parents, peers and administrators.

“I have always been blessed with truly wonderful co-directors, administrators, students and parents,” said Badon. “I am really happy to serve our students to the best of my ability.  It is a true honor to be a recipient.”

Badon has taught orchestra with Pasadena ISD for 15 years, serving at Jackson Intermediate, Melillo Middle Schoo and Dobie High School. She enjoys sharing her love of music, especially the violin, with her students and describes her job as “the best in the world.” In her spare time, Badon serves as the preparatory orchestra conductor for the Bay Area Youth Symphony.
