Pasadena ISD math teacher Misty Ruth was recently awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) during a recognition dinner at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington D.C.

The award is the highest recognition that a K-12 math or science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States, and honors up to 108 teachers each year.

“Receiving this award is exciting, humbling, and a little overwhelming all at one time,” said Ruth. “I think the reason I received it is because of our district’s commitment to staff development for our teachers, to teacher collaboration, and to the leadership opportunities that are available to classroom teachers.”

Ruth was recognized for her work at Young Elementary and received a paid trip to Washington D.C., a certificate signed by the President of the United States and $10,000 from the National Science Foundation.
