Pasadena High School senior Victoria Garza will compete in the Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference in Dallas, May 9-13.

Garza first qualified for state at the BPA Regional competition back in January. Then in March, she competed at the BPA State Leadership Conference and earned fourth place.

“When I was at the competitions, I was nervous because the tests were really challenging,” said Garza. “But then I remembered all the things I learned in Ms. Lopez’s classes and finished both tests in time, earning fourth place for each competition.”

Through her business classes, Garza earned a certification as a Microsoft Office Specialist in Word 2013, Excel 2016 and Excel Expert 2016.

“Victoria excels at every task she is given and challenges herself to continuously grow in her technical skills,” said business co-op teacher Marissa Lopez. “She is a model PHS Business student and I am confident she will utilize the skills she learned through her CTE courses as she pursues a career in international business.”

Outside of her academic achievements, Garza also serves the community as an active member of the BPA.

“The students in BPA really come together to help out however we can,” said Garza. “Whether it’s donating Thanksgiving meals to families in need or making cards for kids in the hospital, making a difference is what makes me happy to volunteer.”
