January is School Board Recognition Month and Pasadena ISD is joining districts across the state to thank these community volunteers for their commitment and contributions to our schools.

“We proudly salute our Pasadena ISD Board Members as they continue to provide the vision and leadership necessary for student achievement, innovative programming, fiscal responsibility and commitment to upgrade and maintain district facilities," said Dr. DeeAnn Powell, Pasadena ISD school superintendent.

In advocating for the success of Pasadena’s schoolchildren, these seven elected officials focus on implementing measures to keep Pasadena ISD strong for years to come. Board members serving Pasadena ISD are Vickie Morgan, president; Jack Bailey, vice president; Nelda Sullivan, secretary; Mariselle Quijano, assistant secretary; members Fred Roberts, Kenny Fernandez and Marshall Kendrick.

Under the guidance of the board, Pasadena ISD has benefited from many accomplishments this past year, including:

  • Raising the graduation rate to 91 percent
  • Opening several new facilities, including four Early College High Schools, a ninth grade campus, and replacement campuses for L.F. Smith Elementary and Pomeroy Elementary (as part of the 2014 School Bond project)
  • Passing the 2017 Bond and Tax Ratification Election (TRE)
  • Earning a Met Standard rating from the Texas Education Agency, with a total of 124 distinctions
  • Expanding the Connect Personalized Learning program from 3 to 23 campuses
  • Securing, in conjunction with the Grants Department, 25 grants totaling over $5.5 million for district programs

“We are very fortunate to have a board that works tirelessly to support our school district on a daily basis,” Dr. Powell said.

“These dedicated individuals deserve to be celebrated for displaying a true passion for children in our community and for the countless hours they serve to ensure all students receive a quality education at Pasadena ISD.”
