Turner Elementary and Red Bluff Elementary were recently named among 322 schools nationwide as two of “America’s Healthiest Schools” by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and named recipients of the prestigious National Healthy Schools Award for their commitment to create healthier campuses for students.

The schools earned the distinction by successfully meeting a rigorous set of criteria for serving healthier meals and snacks, getting students to move more, offering high-quality physical and health education, and empowering school leaders to become healthy role models.

“In Pasadena ISD, we truly believe that healthy, active students make better learners and that every child deserves a healthy school,” said Amber Macneish, coordinated school health specialist. “This award honors the efforts that Red Bluff Elementary and Turner Elementary have made to ensure a healthy learning environment.”

Each recognized school participates in Healthier Generation’s landmark Healthy Schools Program - one of the nation’s largest school-based childhood obesity prevention initiatives -, which has worked with more than 35,000 schools serving over 20 million students since 2006.
