Forty-four business students throughout Pasadena ISD will advance to the Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference (BPA SLC) in Dallas this March, after recently competing in the regional competition.

Students will compete in various business and technical events, including graphic design promotion, desktop publishing software, Java programming, administrative support, business law and ethics, interview skills, personal financial and presentation management.

Business teachers across the district expressed pride in their students' accomplishments.

"It was a privilege to watch these students grow into young adults, overcome anxiety, get competitive and take initiative as they prepared for their events," said Brooke Kahlich, Lewis Career and Technical H.S. business teacher.

"Our students stepped out of their comfort zones and exceeded their own expectations," added Pasadena H.S. Business teacher Marissa Lopez. "I couldn't be more proud of them."

The success of Sam Rayburn's BPA students in the regional competition caught the interest and support of a local business owner.

"This is the most students we have had going to state in many years," said Rayburn H.S. Business teacher Billie Parden. "Their accomplishments led to us receiving a $1,500 donation from a local business sponsor to pay for our students' state entry fees."
